Client: LCP

LCP, the educational publisher, required an interactive CD-ROM for the primary education market which met the requirements of the Government’s Rose Report on phonics and how to teach reading. The product needed to be interactive and whiteboard-friendly. It needed to support group work, as well as allowing pupils to work individually or in pairs. It needed to contain a comprehensive amount of phonics material spanning several educational years and be easier to use and more comprehensive than competitive products already in the market.

 
Our solution
 
We produced a visually-appealing educational CD-ROM which provides easyand intuitive access to a wealth of structured phonics material, including engagingeducational activities. Our design was geared to allowing teachers to navigate quicklyand simply to the materials required for a class, via an intuitive user interface, withinseconds.
 
The activities are clearly presented and easy to use in order to provide the greatest focus on the learning material. They are engaging to attract and hold the attention of pupils and reward positive outcomes, and they are flexible in order to allow teachers to vary the amount of visual and auditory support used.
 
The activities within the teacher-led part of the CD-ROM were designed and built carefully according to their educational objectives and were provided with a behaviour best suited to use within a collaborative, whole-class scenario on an interactive whiteboard. The activities incorporated in the pupil part of the CD-ROM share a very similar look and feel but with a behaviour which is optimised towards independent use.
