A group of young people spent the half term holiday learning skills and gaining qualifications. All of the young people were post-16 care leavers who are currently not engaged in education, employment or training.
The course, called Engage & Progress, was created and delivered by our team of trainers, and funded by Coventry City Council, with the support of local social workers.
The young people worked on their Employability Skills, and Career Development & Planning. Students said that the high points of the course were the interview techniques where all of the students got to watch mock interviews produced by the trainers. They then had the chance to critique each other’s interview skills, and practice. Each of the young people also had the chance to work with business professionals on their CV.
Dave Lewis, Programme Manager at Progressive Educational Tools said, “At the start of the week many of the young people had problems communicating but after working with each other they were all engaged and made a plan for their careers over the next five years!”
The students produced work to gain their ASDAN Wider Key Skills: Improving Own Learning.
