Barrs Hill Success

Barrs Hill Celebration PhotoStudents from Barrs Hill School have been working hard on a Wider Key Skills programme, to gain the equivalent of 2 ¼ GCSEs.  To celebrate this they held a celebration event at the school!

They’ve worked on a range of challenges over the two weeks including creating a new sports or fashion brand, learning interview techniques, presentation skills, producing a music track and raising money for charity!

It’s been a very busy two weeks but the students really enjoyed it. Kayes (16) said, “I loved it, the trainers were great and the challenges were hard work but a lot of fun. I enjoyed the charity challenge the most and making the TV adverts.”

The students raised £128.52 for the Progressive Foundation, which provides small grants to young people to help them progress in life. The activities included a car wash, selling sweets around school, tidying classrooms for teachers and a fun run.

Councillor John Blundell, Dr. Joan Lockier from Coventry University and Rachael Stewart from the Learning & Skills Council came along to speak to the students and help celebrate. Cllr Blundell said, “I’ve visited P.E.T. workshops before and I’ve been so impressed at the work that the young people have produced. The passion and excitement you have for enterprise shows that Coventry has a great future. You should all be very proud of yourselves.”
