Magic Mirror

Magic Mirror Group Photo We work in partnership with a number of local authorities to develop engagement programmes for young people who are looked after or excluded. Initially working in partnership with Coventry City Council on a number of successful pilot projects, we created the Magic Mirror programme to engage young people across the city and help them to reach their potential.

Magic Mirror is educationally focused, and increases social stability by focusing on life skills, commitment and anger issues, working in partnership with the school & carers to bring out the best in every student. Using our blend of enterprise and experience of the world with a programme of qualifications to help students achieve the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grade B, aimed at Level 2.

During the most recent 20 week programme of 2 days per week students gained:

  • Wider Key Skills (2.25 GCSE equivalent points – 103.5 points) 10 DAYS
  • Certificate of Personal Effectiveness - CoPE (1 GCSE equivalent – 46 points) 8 DAYS
  • ALAN (0.5 GCSE equivalent. Both Literacy and Numeracy – 25 points) 10 DAYS
  • Key Skills (1.25 GCSE equivalent. 56.4 points) 8 DAYS

The learning plan is individualised based on the student’s needs; all previous evidence is reviewed so they will not have to repeat work already completed. Our dynamic trainers encourage group work, and balance educational needs with social and emotional well-being to help the young people achieve their potential.  Perhaps most importantly, the programme is fun, with attendance and retention rates second to none.

Please contact us for more information, and see how we can help develop your learners.

Currently only 12% of looked after children (LAC) and less than 1% of excluded young people (PRU) achieve their 5 A*-C GCSEs by the time they leave school (Source: DCSF ‘Time for Change’ & ‘Back on Track’).
